The Parable About God As Our Provider - Luke 11:11-13

The parable that God is our provider, let's talk about it. Luke 11:11-13 say, " What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Jesus is teaching about the invitation of prayer that we have from our Father in Heaven. Jesus acknowledges our fallen nature, describing it as “evil.” Despite our flaws, we can still do good things, but our hearts remain imperfect. Just as earthly parents give good gifts to their children, our heavenly Father is even more generous. He provides us with all things.

One of the most important things He gives us is His Holy Spirit. When we have the Spirit in us we can follow His will and His ways. The Holy Spirit will pray for us for what we need when we dont even know what we need.

David Guzik says, "We never need doubt God’s desire to pour out His Spirit. The problem is in our receiving, not in God’s desire to give." We need childlike trust in God. We must approach God with familiarity, boldness and the trust of a young child seeking provision and protection. God is Jehovah Jireh, our provider. I hope that you take a second to pray to the Lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit today. And I'll see you soon so we can talk about more parables.

Father, today we come to you as Jehovah Jireh, our great provider! May we be filled with your Spirit so that even the prayers we don’t know we need to pray for the things we don’t know we need may be petitioned for us. Thank you that you provide all we need and more. In Jesus name, Amen.

Check out our “Jireh: You are Enough” shirt. Inspired by the worship song, it’s a daily reminder that God is always enough for us. He is our cup and our portion. Found in the “Men’s & Unisex T-Shirts” section of our store.
