The Water is Wild Shirt - What Does it Mean? - Water is Wild by Elevation Worship Ft. Brandon Lake & Chris Brown

I've recently become absolutely inspired by the song "Water is Wild" by Elevation Worship featuring Brandon Lake and Chris Brown. This is why I created the "Water is Wild Shirt." I will leave a link to the song at the end of this post. I encourage you to check it out.
When we come to Christ and are baptized with the Holy Spirit we are completely transformed. Baptism doesn't just refer to the public ceremony of being baptized in water. It also refers symbolically to the baptism we receive in the Holy Spirit. This has a huge impact on who we are and what we can become when we submit to the Spirit of God.
This song implores us to stop looking for evidence (though it is all around us) and live faithfully and closely to God. The Word is filled with the beautiful and rich promises that God has promised to us and it's time to start walking in them and living in them. It tells us to "start living in the promises like you know who your Father is." I am absolutely struck by the profoundness of being a child of God and really embracing these promises that are mine because of who my Heavenly Father is.
The chorus says, "Heaven is tearing open wide and I feel it down on the inside." Have you ever just been in deep worship and felt like your heart is just swelling with love for the Lord? I imagine that is exactly what heaven feels like and I feel it down on the inside, down to the core of my being.
The second verse proclaims us a chosen generation "baptized with tongues of fire" which is a reference to the Holy Spirit's power and presence. In the bible being baptized with fire can also mean being cleansed and refined. We are separated from the unrighteous because of the work of Jesus on the cross. We need to step into our identities as children of God.
The bridge repeatedly says, "I've been baptized in the water and the water is wild." It's WILD! It's completely unrestrained, the power of the Holy Spirit is beyond anything we can comprehend and if we submit to it nothing can stop us. Picture a wildfire which cannot be tamed, it overtakes and overcomes and spreads rapidly. It is a profound and transformative experience.
My favorite part of this song is when it says, "I hear the voice of my father say, 'this is my child.'" In Matthew 3:17, after Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist, the heavens open, and the Spirit of God descends like a dove and rests on Jesus. Then a voice from heaven says, "This is my child with whom I am well pleased." When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit God affirms us as His children, this reinforces our identity in Christ and a motivation for walking in His promises.
Being baptized in the water is WILD! It is a transformative experience. Please take a moment to listen to this song and worship the Lord. It is a powerful experience. I'll leave a link below.
Father, being baptized in your Holy Spirit is truly transformative and powerful. May we live our lives accordingly. Amen.
