Seasons - Genesis 1:14 - Faith Beyond Now

Let’s continue to talk about seasons. Genesis 1:14 says, "And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years."

This verse is about the fourth day of creation in which God made the sun, moon and stars. God made the sun and the moon to be signs for seasons. Not only do they "rule the day and night" but since the beginning of time they have been used to mark and measure time and direction. 

Consider the sun as a metaphor for spiritual enlightenment. Just as it dispels physical darkness, God’s truth and revelation illuminate our hearts. The moon, waxing and waning, symbolizes our spiritual journey—sometimes bright, sometimes obscured. Stars, scattered across the sky, represent God’s promises and our purpose in His grand design.

These celestial bodies exist beyond human control or comprehension. Similarly, our faith extends beyond the temporal. By looking up, we gain an eternal perspective—remembering that our lives are part of a cosmic narrative orchestrated by the Creator. This helps us to remember that though difficult seasons may come they are never the end, they are never final. God will walk us through each season, and we can know that no matter what we face in this world we may have peace because Jesus has overcome the world. Lord, give us faith that extends beyond the “now”. A faith that knows you will walk us through each season no matter what it brings. Thank you that we can rest in this peacefully because you have overcome the world. Amen.
