Search for Holiness - 2 Corinthians 7:1 Bible Study with Reflection Questions and Prayer

     Let's continue our search for Holiness. 2 Corinthians 7:1 says, "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” 
     This verse is calling for a cleansing (to purfiy ourselves morally) of our flesh (sinful human nature). Paul is urging the believers to pursue spiritual purity because they are now considered God's Holy Temple. In the preceding chapter, 2 Corinthians 6, Paul speaks about the believers being the temple of the living God and the importance of living a life that is holy and separate from worldly influences. 
     The "promises" referred to in 2 Corinthians 7:1 are the blessings and assurances that God will dwell with His people and be their Father. These promises offer a foundation for believers to live holy lives. Paul emphasizes the need for purity and holiness among believers. This involves separating themselves from sinful practices and influences that can defile both body and spirit.
     The motivation for this purification process is to show reverence for God. Living a holy life is a way to honor and glorify Him, recognizing His presence and authority in our lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious promises You have given us. Help us to cleanse ourselves from all defilement of body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of You. Strengthen us to live lives that honor and glorify Your name. Guide us in our journey towards holiness and fill us with Your Spirit to transform our hearts and minds. Amen.
